DISEASE PREVENTATIVE POLICY: COVID‐19

Thomsen Builders & Carpenters are actively taking measures to mitigate the spread of coronavirus. The health and safety of our employees, clients and the communities we operate in is our top priority, especially in light of the recent novel coronavirus (COVID-19) developments. To sustain a healthy and safe workplace all employees must respond responsibly and transparently to these health precautions.

Thomsen Builders & Carpenters will treat private health and personal data with high confidentiality and sensitivity.

Our policy is susceptible to changes with the introduction of additional governmental guidelines. If so, the policy will be updated and emailed to employees and contractors.

Outlined are the required actions employees take to protect themselves, their co-workers and the public from a coronavirus infection.

  • If an employee has cold symptoms, such as cough/sneezing/fever, or feel unwell, they must request sick leave.
  • If an employee has returned from overseas, they are required to self-isolate for 14 days. During this time, if they develop symptoms, including fever and cough, they should seek medical attention, remembering to call ahead. Notification to the company is required.
  • Employees who have been in close contact with a confirmed case of coronavirus should also monitor their health and seek medical advice. Notification to the company is required.
  • If an employee has a positive coronavirus diagnosis, they are to immediately notify the company. Return to work is only accepted with full recovery and a medical certificate.

Traveling/commuting and jobsite measures:

  • In-person meetings should be done virtually where possible.
  • Employees are to travel in personal vehicles as public transport is not accepted.
  • Before arriving on a jobsite, employees will apply hand sanitiser before entering the site.
  • Bathrooms should be identified upon arrival at a new jobsite. If none are available alcohol-based sanitiser will be used.
  • Implement social distancing such as avoidance of large crowds, maintaining 1.5 metres between yourself and others whenever possible and no physical contact.

Liaison with contractors, suppliers and clients:

  • If an employee has contracted COVID-19, all employees, contractors, suppliers and clients who had been in recent contact with the employee will be notified immediately.

General hygiene rules:

  • Wash your hands after using the bathroom, before eating, and if you cough/sneeze into your hands (follow the 20-second hand-washing rule). Apply alcohol-based sanitiser if a bathroom is unavailable.
  • Cough/sneeze into your sleeve, preferably into your elbow. If you use a tissue, discard it properly and clean/sanitize your hands immediately.
  • Avoid touching your face, particularly the eyes, nose and mouth with your hands to prevent from getting infected.
  • If you find yourself coughing/sneezing regularly, avoid close physical contact with your co-workers (staying 1.5 metres away) and take extra precautionary measures.
